Church leaders have condemned the deployment of the military to assist the police in managing protesters.

"As for majeshi to come into town, we say no, peacefully. Haijafika pahali ya majeshi ," Bishop Abraham Gitu said.

Gitu urged the President to leave the army men in their barracks while urging the youth not to engage in violence against the police.

"Our President, peacefully, prayerfully, we pray you to shelve majeshi in the barracks. And our youth should not fight the police," Gitu said.

The Bishop urged everyone to remember that the police are fellow brothers and sisters.

"They are your brothers and sisters. Don’t be thieves, robbers in Jesus name," he said.

This comes after the Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale gazetted the deployment of the military on Tuesday.

"The Kenya Defence Forces is deployed on June 25, 2024, in support of the National Police Service in response to the security emergency caused by the ongoing violent protests in various parts of the Republic of Kenya resulting in destruction and broaching of critical infrastructure," the gazette notice reads.

Members of Parliament on Wednesday morning approved the deployment of Kenya Defence Forces officers within the country to restore order after deadly protests.

Already, military officers have now been deployed to all protected areas across the country.

Among the areas now under the tight guard of KDF are State Houses in Nairobi, Nakuru and Mombasa and also lodges across the country.

At Nakuru, the KDF were seen lined up at the main road leading to the State House.

According to Duale, the deployment was in response to the security emergency caused by the violent protests in various parts of the country.
