Sotik MP Francis Sigei was the notable figure absent as Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua visited his constituency Sunday for a church service.

Gachagua was at Kaplong deliverance church in Bomet County for a church service cum fundraiser.

In what appears to be a carefully coordinated plan, all other MPs from the county including the senator also skipped the event.

Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno and his Kangema counterpart Peter Kihungi were the only MPs who accompanied the DP.

Kajiado Senator Seki Lenku was also the lone senator in the event.

Governor Hillary Barchok, his deputy and a few MCAs were at hand to receive the DP.

No explanations were given as to the whereabouts of the leaders with Barchok only offering apologies from Woman Representative Linet Chepkorir (Toto).

This, was as he called out the local leaders for failing to attend the event.

"Let us respect this man (DP) and associate himself with him, even if we do not love him let us respect his office," he said.

"Our child will tomorrow hold that office, you do not want him to be respected?" he posed.

"Even though Ngeno has spoken about issues around the finance bill, this is not about finance bill. This is a church service where we all meet, we want to know where our MPs have gone to," the county boss said.

"So, Ngeno do not defend them," he said.

Sources, however, indicate that some of the legislators were out of the country.

While the recent protests against Finance Bill,2024 may have impacted, the growing rebellion by Gachagua against President William Ruto is also believed to be a factor.

On Saturday, Gachagua rubbished claims that his push for One man, One shilling would deny other regions resources.

The DP said it was unfortunate that some people were misrepresenting what he said was a genuine formula to ensure a fair share of national resources.

''Why is it that when we talk about sharing resources, it is about tribalism, it is simply being reasonable, it is a good argument,'' Gachagua said.

He said the one man, one shilling is not a formula only for the Mount Kenya region but for the ''whole Republic.''

"I want to ask our leaders who represent regions where there are many people not to oppose this formula, how do you oppose a formula that is good for your people,'' he said while in Muragua.
