Former Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter's wife has detailed the moments leading up to the arrest of his husband over the weekend.

Keter was on Sunday dramatically arrested by plainclothed police officers as he left church in an incident caught on camera.

Speaking after his release later on Sunday, Keter's  wife, Joanne, said her children are still traumatised about the manner in which their father was arrested.

She said their car was blocked by another vehicle as they left church.

Joanne described the moment which she said happened so fast as terrifying to their children who were in the car.

In the footage circulated online, sounds of children screaming can be heard as the ex-MP was being taken away to a awaiting car.

"I'm still traumatised up to this time. We were from church because every Sunday we usually go to church, and we had plans for the day," Joanne said.

"While we were leaving church, a car came in front of us and blocked us. It all happened so fast," she added.

Joanne said the actions also left their children traumatised and as they kept enquiring about their father's whereabouts.

"The people who came to arrest him were men; you people are fathers, God will avenge this for me because whatever you have left in the hearts of my children, it is only God who can avenge me. The children are still calling and asking where their dad is. May God punish this for me," she said.

Keter was released Sunday evening, hours after the dramatic arrest in Nairobi's Kileleshwa area.

He was booked at Kamukunji police cells. The team of officers involved in the dramatic arrest alleged that the former legislator had resisted arrest.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said in a statement Keter was arrested in connection to an ongoing investigation relating to claims of "conspiracy to traffic firearms and incitement to violence".

The DCI dismissed claims that the former MP's arrest was an abduction and said he was apprehended by officers from the National Police Service.

"Contrary to the misinformation circulating on social media on the alleged abduction of Hon Alfred Keter by unknown men, this is to confirm that Hon Keter was arrested earlier today by NPS Officers for Conspiracy to Traffic Firearms and Incitement to Violence," DCI said.
