Protesters gather at National Archives as city protests begin

As protests across the country begin, youths in Nairobi have gathered at the National Archives.

In a video seen by the Star, the protesters are heard chanting anti-Ruto slogans in the city centre.

The anti-riot police who have been stationed to ensure peace and security are seen watching from the junction that connects Moi Avenue with Kimathi Street.

Other police officers are seen around the Kencom area.

On Tuesday morning, there was heavy police presence in the CBD as many shops remained closed.

Tension remains high in Nairobi as critical infrastructure such as Parliament, the Supreme Court and Kenyatta International Convention Centre remain heavily guarded.

Key roads leading to these institutions remain closed.

Parliament has been rendered a no-go zone as police mount blockades around the building.

Police have mounted barriers on City Hall and Parliament roads to secure Parliament.

On City Hallway, the road has been blocked near the Supreme Court.

The police have barricaded the road using their track.

No pedestrians or motorists are allowed to go past the roundabout.
