Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo will lead the United Kingdom Election Observation Mission as the country heads to the polls on Thursday, July 4.
"I welcome this opportunity to work with Commonwealth parliamentarians to observe the 2024 General Election in the United Kingdom on July 4,” Amollo said after being chosen to head the mission.
“I know from experience that election missions play an important role in strengthening democracies.”
The mission aims to observe every facet of the electoral process, ensuring adherence to international obligations, commitments, and standards governing democratic elections.
"Our role will be to observe the democratic process, share our findings to make recommendations in line with the international practices," Amollo said.
The parliamentarians from the 18 nations in the mission were drawn from regions across the Commonwealth and were expected to be impartial observers of the voting process.
"We look forward to observing electoral practices in a variety of contexts, regions and nations, reflecting the diversity of the United Kingdom itself," Otiende said.
Other parliamentarians in the mission were drawn from Malawi, St Lucia, the State of Alderney, New South Wales, Seychelles and Trinidad and Tobago.
MPs from the State Assembly of Jersey, Grenada, Sri Lanka, Parliament of Turks and Caicos, Malta and Lesotho also made part of the Mission.
