Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has warned Gen Zs of forces out to water down their resolve to demand better governance.

According to Mutunga, Gen Z is a revolutionary mass movement that is likely to face various challenges if it aligns itself with any faction of the ruling class.

“I believe that the broad program of what the movement stands for must now attack all barons in the two factions. The movement will die if it is aligned with any of the two factions,” he said.

“Your agenda must now come out. Change is a marathon, and as you protest, you should not lose focus on your goals, and most importantly ensure that every GenZ is a registered voter,” he stated.

In a post on his X page, the former CJ also urged the group to think about the protection of those he alleged may be targeted.

He stated that many innocent Kenyans have been killed hence the need for them to demand justice for the victims.

Part of the justice, he said, is to ensure that those who have been used to cause these deaths and injuries are arrested and submitted to the legal process.

“It is time for accountability. Those who have paid the ultimate price for the constitution must be compensated,” said Mutunga.

The approval of Finance Bill, 2024 which sought to introduce new tax measures forced the Gen Zs to hold protests in various parts of the country to pile pressure on the government to drop it.

On June 25, the youth, in a daring move, breached Parliament security and infiltrated the building.

President William Ruto later withdrew the Bill and also dissolved the Cabinet.
