Police are investigating an incident in which an elderly couple was killed in a fire incident in Lari, Limuru, Kiambu County.

The bodies of Peter Kimani Kuria 75 and his wife Miriam Muthoni 65, were found long after their three-roomed house had been flattened.

The fire happened on Monday, July 22 night, police said.

Locals in Lare village reported there was a fire at the homestead that had flattened the three-roomed iron sheet house.

The fire had burnt the entire house. It was later established the couple was burnt beyond recognition.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

The investigators said they wanted to establish if the two died out of arson.

The remains were moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

Police also suspect the couple may have tried to warm themselves using a jiko prompting the fire.

Kiambu police boss Michael Muchiri said experts will tell more about the cause of the fire.

“We have experts handling the matter to establish how and why the fire started,” he said.

In Lungalunga slums, Nairobi, one Anthony Gicheru, 34 was discovered dead on his bed.

His wife told police she tried to wake him up in vain.

The two had gone to bed on Monday night but the deceased failed to wake up the following day.

Police said they visited the scene and established the deceased did not have any visible injuries.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

In Manyatta, Embu County, police are holding a man who stabbed another in a fight over an unknown amount of money.

The incident happened in Kirigi Market on Tuesday morning.

One Santon Murimi Munene, 28 was stabbed to death in the fight.

An assailant known to the deceased had come to the house where Munene stayed and demanded his money.

A witness told police this prompted a fight before the assailant reached for a knife and stabbed him in the neck.

He bled and died at the scene.

Police were called to the scene and found a mob had subdued the assailant rescuing him.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

Murder cases are on the rise amid calls on parties to solve their differences amicably.
