A section of supporters of former Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba in Busia have demanded that he be reinstated to  Cabinet.

The supporters who held protests on Thursday said Namwamba revived the Sports Ministry by launching many stalled stadia in Kenya which hence saw sports grow in the country.

President William Ruto has since filled the existing Cabinet slots except that of the Attorney General and the CS for EAC and Asals.

"Ababu Namwamba is not only of help to Busia residents but also to the people of Kenya as he was able to launch different stadia in the country," Florence Mukhwana, a resident, said.

The supporters said they will stop supporting United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party if their demand is not met.

"We urge President Ruto to consider nominating Namwamba to his former ministry, failure to which, we will withdraw our support for UDA in Busia County," Antony Wepukhulu said.

"We will not support UDA if Namwamba will not be nominated back to his former position as the Cabinet Secretary for Sports," Minika Miyika, another resident said.

They have said that the former Sports CS was at the forefront in campaigning for President Ruto in 2022 and therefore should be considered for nomination to the Cabinet.

They said Namwamba shelved his plan to vie for an elective post in Busia during the 2022 General Elections after the promise that he will land an appointment in government.

Namwamba is among former CSs dismissed by President Ruto as he unveiled his second batch of Cabinet nominees on Wednesday.

The President announced the new nominations at the State House, Nairobi.

Ruto said the new names will join his government to steward "our transformative agenda that is already in place".
