Team Kenya thanks Miramas for hosting them in France

The Kenya Olympics team has expressed gratitude to Miramas for hosting them as they prepared for the global showcase in Paris, France.

Team Kenya athletes headed to Miramas to close the pre-Olympics training camp and celebrate with the people.

“We want to thank the Miramas family for their support, for hosting us. We appreciate the good job,” Team Kenya said on X.

Miramas, located south of France, was Kenya’s base for the two-week boot camp before the Paris Olympic Games.

A video posted on social media by Team Kenya showed gold medallists Beatrice Chebet and Faith Kipyegon returning to Miramas on Monday.

“We are going to thank Miramas for hosting Team Kenya,” Kipyegon responded when she was asked where they were going.

Chebet said they were going for a thanksgiving to appreciate the support from Miramas.

“We want to appreciate them for the good job and facilities that they made available to our country,” she said.

Chebet is a long-distance runner who is the world record holder in the 10,000m.

Chebet won gold medals at the 2024 Olympics in the 5000m and 10,000m races, becoming the third woman in history to win both events at the same Olympic Games.

Kipyegon is the current world record holder for the 1,500m race and the former world record holder for the 5,000m.

Kipyegon bagged her third straight gold medal at the Olympic Games after winning the 1500m final at the Rio, 2016 and Tokyo, 2021 editions.

Kipyegon also grabbed a silver medal in the 5000m women's race.

Kenya led Africa with a total of 11 medals, including four gold, two silver, and five bronze, and placed 17th overall.
