The nominee for the position of Inspector-General of the National Police Service Douglas Kanja Kirocho has a net worth of Sh46 million.

Speaking on Thursday when he appeared before lawmakers for vetting, Kanja said his wealth is in form of land, agricultural activities and a house in Nairobi and rural home.

Legislators however demanded to be told where the house in Nairobi is located.

Kanja said his house is in Kamiti area, Kiambu, a bungalow.

National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security jointly with the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations conducted the vetting.

The vetting was co-chaired by Senator William Cheptumo (Baringo County) and Narok West constituency MP Gabriel Tongoyo.

“Members and Kenyans want to know your worth because you go to a big office with a big budget and that’s when some people enrich themselves instead of serving the public,” said Tongoyo.

President William Ruto nominated Kanja for the position of Inspector-General of the National Police Service and his name was forwarded to Parliament for approval.

The committee is expected to submit a report to both Houses of Parliament either approving or rejecting the nomination by August 20, 2024.
