Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa have condemned the arrest of businessman Jimi Wanjigi.

Wanjigi was arrested on Monday hours after he presented himself at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters for grilling.

This is after he was summoned by the detectives for questioning over Nane Nane protests.

However, hours after he arrived at the station, Wanjigi was arrested and detained at Kamukunji police station.

Kalonzo and Wamalwa have condemned the arrest saying it is unconstitutional.

While addressing the press at Kamukunji, Kalonzo termed Wanjigi's arrest as a case of abduction.

"What we have seen at the Kamukunji police station today is completely unacceptable, it is unconstitutional, illegal and it is impunity at its highest," Kalonzo said.

He added that Wanjigi had properly issued a restraining order against his arrest saying the law had been violated.

"We treat it as another case of abduction, this is what it is."

Kalonzo said the officer in charge of Wanjigi at Kamukunji assured them of his safety while in custody.

The Wiper leader added that Wanjigi will pursue legal channels over contempt of court in his arrest.

Wamalwa reiterated saying the family of Wanjigi has been traumatised after the incident.

"Abductions are still ongoing, a lot of youths have disappeared in this country, and police officers are still wearing masks and hooded regalia while making the abductions in plain clothes," Wamalwa added.

One of his lawyers, John Khaminwa expressed his dissatisfaction with the arrest.

Khaminwa said Wanjigi consulted on being summoned and he was advised to honour the summon.

He added that Wanjigi complied with the summons to find out why the police wanted to see him.

"To me who has been at the law for a long time, what is happening is despicable, that is not the way justice should be administered at all," Khaminwa said.

"Those orders are still in force but what is happening now is despicable. The things happening are those which used to happen during past administrations which I thought as a country we have now got over, but it appears as if we are going back to that era."

Wanjigi had moved to court where he obtained orders stopping his arrest.

The court on August 16 extended the orders stopping the police from arresting him.

Justice Bahati Mwamuye extended the order to September 19 but at the same time said he could not issue an order stopping any registration of a charge sheet against Wanjigi.

Police had on August 8, tried to arrest him at his Muthaiga house in vain.
