The Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) national chairman, Enos Njeru has been reelected to serve in his position for a fresh term.

Njeru from zone 6 floored four other candidates to retain the seat in an election held at a Mombasa hotel Friday.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Andrew Karanja witnessed the process.

Erick Chepkwony from zone 9, who was also eyeing the seat, was elected the vice chairperson.

The duo, who had earlier earned reelection in their respective zones, will now serve in the positions for three years

Others who were in the race were Chege Kirundi, John Wa Susana and Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe.

In his address following the declaration of the results, Njeru vowed to continue serving “with the dedication and integrity” that this position demands.

He also noted that he achieved great milestones during his first term, especially in ensuring good prices for the tea farmers.

"We made significant progress in my first term and in this term, we will ensure prompt monthly payments to our tea farmers, disbursing funds by the 5th day of each month," he said.

The election presided over by the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is a culmination of the factory elections held across 19 tea growing counties two months ago.

Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire termed the reelection of Njeru as not an achievement for the people of Embu but for tea farmers across the country.

"Your leadership marks a new chapter of growth and prosperity for the tea industry," she said.

"We have full confidence in your ability to serve with diligence and commitment to the betterment of our tea farmers."
