[PHOTOS] Phone calls, anxiety as Hillside Academy parents wait for information

Parents at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County waited in agony for information about the whereabouts of their children following a fire tragedy at the school.

The fire raged through the dormitory of the boarding school killing 17 boys who were sleeping.

More than 150 pupils were in the dormitory when it caught fire on Thursday around midnight.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

President William Ruto has instructed authorities to investigate the “horrific incident” and hold those responsible to account.

Reports indicate that the fire broke out at around 11 pm, with firefighters from Kiawara initially responding to the inferno.

However, they sought assistance from the Nyeri Fire Brigade after realising that the fire was too large to handle alone.
