Man's body discovered in River Athi after assault incident

Police suspect that he might have drowned while attempting to evade arrest from the public.

The body of a man was found floating in River Athi in Athi River, Machakos county on September 14, 2024.

The body was identified as that of Amos Walale, 23.

According to police, the deceased was missing following an assault he committed on a local on the night of September 13.

It is suspected that he might have drowned while attempting to evade arrest from the public by fleeing towards the river after committing the assault.

The body was moved to Shalom mortuary pending autopsy, police said.

Elsewhere in Korogocho slums, the lifeless body of one Fredrick Onyango was found lying in one of the houses.

Police officers from Korogocho visited the scene and established the deceased had gone to sleep without any complaint and did not wake up which raised the suspicion of the neighbours who peeped into his house and found him lying lifeless on the mattress.

Police said there were no visible injuries on the body and it was moved to City Morgue pending post-mortem.
