President William Ruto has called for a multi-sectoral approach to effectively address the region's pressing health challenges.

Ruto said this will be key in reducing maternal mortality in the region.

Ruto was speaking during a high-level event on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

He elaborated on Kenya’s pioneering model of deploying Community Health Promoters (CHPs), who deliver essential medical services to people at the local level.

"In Kenya, we have deployed Community Health Promoters to deliver crucial medical care directly to the grassroots, ensuring the well-being of women, children and other vulnerable groups for a sustainable future," Ruto said.

This innovative approach to healthcare delivery is aimed at significantly reducing mortality rates among women, children, and other vulnerable groups.

The event was hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
