Raila gifts Gor, Mara Sugar FC with Sh1 million

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has gifted Gor Mahia, Mara Sugar FC and match officials with a Sh1.1 million cash award at a Kenya Premier League(KPL)  game on November 30, 2024.

The game was played at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay County. 

Raila, who is seen as a keen supporter of Kenyan football, graced the event where he announced cash rewards for the teams and their officials. 

“For the referees, I am giving you Sh100,000, K’Ogalo, who have come from Nairobi and are also the champions, I am giving you Sh700,000,” Raila said.

Mara Sugar FC was awarded Sh300,000.

The race for the FKF Premier League title has entered week 11 with several matches on the cards, among them being the Gor Mahia, Mara Sugar FC match. 

K’Ogalo were seeking to build on their midweek 2-0 win against Kakamega Homeboyz. 

The record Kenyan champions have moved fifth in the FKF Premier League standings after the 2-0 win against Mara Sugar FC.

Gor Mahia’s Austin Odhiambo and Gideon Bender crowned the team’s victory with their last minute;  87 and 92-minute goals.

K’Ogalo’s victory at the Raila Odinga Stadium marked their second triumph under interim coach Zedekiah Otieno.

This is after the dismissal of their then Brazilian head coach Leonardo Neiva. 

In another encounter, Nairobi City Stars faced Bandari FC at the Police Sacco Stadium, Kakamega Home Boys faced Shabana FC at the Mumias Stadium and Talanta FC were up against Posta Rangers at the Ke4nyatta Stadium, all on November 30, 2024. 

December starts off with several matches: AFC Leopards up against Kenya Police at the Kenyatta Stadium, Ulinzi Stars to face Mathare United at the Ulinzi Stadium, Bidco United up to face KCB at the Kenyatta Stadium and Murang'a Seal to battle Tusker FC at the SportPesa Arena.

FKF - PL standings as of December 1, 2024, have KCB at the top of the table, followed by Bandar FC, Mara Sugar FC, Tusker FC and Gor Mahia at fifth place.
