A man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death at Mirera estate in Naivasha, before trying to commit suicide by drinking a pesticide.

The 32-year-old flower farm worker was rescued and rushed to Naivasha Subcounty Hospital in critical condition by police.

It is alleged that the two have been cohabiting for a month.

Neighbour Paul Kamau said they were attracted to the house by commotion only to find the woman in a pool of blood and the man foaming from the mouth. The man allegedly stabbed the woman twice in the neck.

“By the time we broke down the door, the woman had died while the man was taken to hospital by police in serious condition,” he said.

Chief David Kaviku said the body had been collected and taken to the mortuary.

“The man who works in the flower farms is well known but no one knows the woman. Police have taken over the investigations,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ongoing ball games in Naivasha were temporarily suspended after a student collapsed and died while playing soccer.

During the weekend incident, the student from Nyamathi Secondary School collapsed and was pronounced dead on arrival at a private hospital in Naivasha town.

Fellow students, teachers and relatives were left in tears as the body was transferred to Naivasha Subcounty Hospital.

Secondary school students had camped at the school for the annual ball games when the incident occurred.

Witness Joel Mbuthia said the student was all alone on the section of the field when he collapsed.

“Many thought that he had fainted and first aiders tried to resuscitate him without success. He was rushed to hospital but he unfortunately passed on,” he said.

Naivasha OCPD Benjamin Bowen said they were treating it as sudden death though an inquest file had been opened.

“The information we are getting is that he just collapsed in the field and we are waiting for postmortem so we can know the cause of death,” he said.
