Renowned Kenyan singer and entrepreneur Esther Akoth, alias Akothee, has now revealed what led to her divorce from her Swiss ex-husband Denis Schweizer, alias Mister Omosh.
Akothee has disclosed that the ex-husband concealed a lot of things from her before they got married in April last year, something that angered her leading to the split.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Jambo’s Gidi na Ghost Asubuhi show, the 43-year-old singer said upon discovery of the hidden things she was unable to cope with lies.
She said her ex-husband was battling some mental challenges but had not told her about it before they officially got married.
"I can't say he was a joker, but what I came to discover later was that there were things I couldn't sit with because he hid a lot from me. Hiding things from me is what hurt me, and I said If you can hide things from me at this time, how many times will you hide things from me later? How will I live with you? How can I trust you?" Akothee said.
"What made me break up with him is that he didn't tell me his inner truth that he had health challenges; the fact that he had these mental challenges and hid them from me hurt me—I wouldn't say he's insane, but he had mental challenges. He was so bipolar. When he told me, I asked him why he didn't tell me before we got married and before I embarrassed myself in front of people."
The mother of five, however, noted that, just like many other things, even marriages end.
She, however, lamented about men joking about issues of relationships and wanted them to be careful, especially when dealing with women past 40 years.
"Even when Big-G runs out of sweetness, you have to spit it out. You know marriage is a relationship between two people. You meet a person with 32 teeth; you don't know where he comes from or where he is going; you don't know what he wants. You want love; you don’t know what this person wants.
"You know, in the 40s, we women don't know jokes; we don't like jokes. So, if you're dating a woman in her 40s, know it's time for injury; don't joke with us about marriage. Even if you want to say I want water, we know you want to marry us. We believe in you," she said.
Akothee broke up with Omosh sometime in June last year, just about two months after having a colourful wedding with the Swiss man in Nairobi, Kenya.
