How to make Arabic coffee

Ingredients

2 cups water

2 tablespoons ground Arabic coffee beans

2 cardamom pods, lightly crushed

1 cinnamon stick

1 teaspoon ground cloves

 Sugar 

Optional: 1 tablespoon rose water

Step 1

In a small saucepan, add 2 cups of water and boil over medium heat.

Step 2

Once the water has reached a boiling point, reduce the heat to low and add  2 tablespoons of ground Arabic coffee beans,2 crushed cardamom pods,1 cinnamon stick and 1 teaspoon ground clove to the saucepan. Stir gently to combine.

Step 3

Allow the mixture to simmer on low heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. This simmering process helps to infuse the water with the flavors of the spices and coffee.

Step 4

After simmering, remove the saucepan from the heat. Using a fine mesh strainer or a cheesecloth, strain the brewed coffee into a teapot or individual serving cups to remove the coffee grounds and spices.

Add sugar to taste, stirring until dissolved. The amount of sugar can vary depending on personal preference.

Step 6

For an extra floral note, you can add a tablespoon of rose water to the brewed coffee and stir gently.

Experiment with the amount of spices and sugar to suit your taste preferences.

If you prefer a stronger flavour, you can increase the number of coffee beans or brew the coffee for a longer period.

Ghawa coffee is traditionally served in small cups. Pour the brewed coffee into the cups and serve hot.
