Thika Queens believe their revamped squad has what it takes to successfully defend their Kenya Women's Premier League title despite losing three key players.
The spine of their title-winning side this year saw experienced Essy Akida, Dorcas Shikobe and Mwanahalima 'Dogo' Adam exit to seek greener pastures elsewhere.
Akida sought fresh challenge with Greece side, FC PAOK Thessaloniki, Shikobe sought greener pastures with Lakatamia FC in Cyprus as Mwanahalima is looking to start her dream life in Turkey.
The trio were the reason Thika, under the tutelage of Benta Achieng, won the title unbeaten.
Shikobe, who has been the captain at both club and national team Harambee Starlets, was rock solid at the back, Akida was unplayable while Mwanahalima was the goal machine.
Mwanahalima managed 23 goals to be crowned top scorer as Thika broke Vihiga's three-year dominance to win their second WPL title.
Thika have signed three forwards in Rebecca Akinyi, Stellah Anyango (Nakuru Queens) and Lovenita Lupemba(Kayole Starlets) and are expected to provide the creative power or finesse in the final third to unlock stubborn defences.
At the same time, Juliet Auma and Dorcas Shiveka are hoping to form a formidable partnership in defence as they seek to mirror Shikobe's displays and leadership.
Thika chairman, Fredrick Chege, downplayed the crucial role played by the departed players, challenging those on board to step up to the challenge.
"We have brought in new players and we have faith they will fill the void left by departures. Auma was the backbone of Kayole's defence while the Nakuru pair were outstanding last season as the newbies reached the playoffs. They are going to bring their best attributes to the team," Chege said.
"Akida, Dogo and Shikobe proved invaluable but they weren't there when we lifted the trophy in 2016. It's time to give others a chance to prove themselves but all in all the squad looks competitive and we are not worried at all."
Thika will settle scores with Ulinzi Starlets this weekend in the first ever Women's Super Cup match with the league set to kick off on November 13.
