Blazers attacking sensation Eleanor Chebet hopes the team will kick-start the 2023 season with a win against Strathmore Scorpions in the Kenya Hockey Union Premier League match on April 9 at the City Park Stadium.

Record champions Blazers, formerly Telkom, surrendered the league title to the Scorpions last season after a year marred with inconsistency in performance.

The seven-time Africa Cup for Club Champions finished second for the first time in more than a decade.

Blazers lost 2-0 in the first leg against the Scorpions last season. The two teams shared spoils after a 1-1 all-draw in the second leg but the Blazers are ready to make amends if Chebet is to be believed.

"We were disappointed by what transpired last season. Losing the title to 'Strath' was hard to take on the chin," Chebet said.

"We have, however, rectified our mistakes, trained together as a team, bonded well and the chemistry in training has been superb. The preparations generally have been good unlike in the past. We have sharpened our skills and the players have the right mindset."

Chebet said Blazers remain unfazed by the prospect of facing Scorpions in the opener, terming it the right time to exert revenge. The Blazers beat their bitter rivals 1-0 in the ACCC tournament in February, Nairobi.

"There's no better time to play them than this weekend. We know they are the University games champions but that won't count at all. This will be a different ballgame altogether."

The international player presumed her targets for the season saying: "I performed below expectations last time. I want to finish among the top scorers. But most importantly, I want to enjoy playing and winning matches."
