Team Kenya beach volleyball coach Patrick Owino believes the duo of Abigael Chebet and Sharon Jepkosgei have what it takes to make an impression at the Commonwealth Youth Games set for August 4-11 in Trinidad and Tobago.

Owino said the two have for the last two weeks embarked on rigorous training at their Kilifi residential camp, where they interacted with members of the senior national team.

"The girls have enough experience, gained during the school games, and the only thing we had to do was ensure they get the skills to play on the beach as well as sharpening some of their weak areas," said Owino.

Chebet and Jepkosgei will be making their debut on the international stage and got a boost by training alongside 2020 Tokyo Olympian Gaudencia Makokha.

"This championship offers a podium for exposure for the girls. They are ready to battle for glory even as they learn how to navigate the grand stage," said Owino.

"Our target is to reach the podium."

Chebet said: "It feels great to have a chance to represent the country. This is my chance to showcase what I can do. God-willing, we aspire to be on the podium. We will also use this opportunity to gain experience."

The team left Tuesday night alongside their counterparts in cycling, triathlon and swimming.
