Narok County Government has closed William Ole Ntimama Stadium for renovations ahead of Water Companies Sports Organisation (WASCO) games set for August 13-18.

Narok executive member in charge of education and sports, Robert Simotwo, advised teams that have been using the stadium to seek alternative venues.

Besides Wasco Games, the facility will also host the 42nd edition of the Kenya Communications Sports Organisation (KECOSO) Games from  August 19-26.

Simotwo said as the county administration, they have a duty of ensuring their playing surfaces are improved up to the standards and put necessary measures to ensure the games are successful.

“We are currently rectifying areas that need repairs in the stadium so that the games can continue without any hitch,” said Simotwo.

He said preparations for the two events are ongoing and they expect everything to be ready in a fortnight. “We have improved the security of the stadium by installing CCTV cameras around the facility in a bid to secure the safety of participants,"  Simotwo said.

He said they are working closely with the national government to ensure the safety of all players in all the hosting venues.

“We are deploying the county rangers in the stadium and Maasai Mara University playing ground to boost the security situation,” he said.

Simotwo challenged the business community in Narok town to take advantage of the games by being strategic and reaping maximum profits.

” The business people need to be ready in terms of accommodation and provision of food among other things as they seek to serve the expected 5,000 visitors,” he noted.
