Stray Lions ‘A’ team principal Thota Sreenivas has revealed they are building a team for the future.

Speaking after the team beat Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj (SCLPS) YL ‘A’ by nine wickets at Nairobi Jaffrey’s, Sreenivas said: “We are building a team for the future and I am glad that our youngsters are coming up really well. It’s such a great feeling to defeat Cutchi Leva given that they had beaten us in our opening first leg match.”

The win was inspired by Ifran Karim, who notched up a well-crafted 76-runs.

The Lions won the toss and elected to field first. Cutchi Leva managed a paltry 154 all out in 31.1 overs with Ravi Rabadia being the team’s top scorer with 87 made up of eight boundaries and four sixes.

Chasing the target, the Lions hit 154 for the loss of one wicket to seal the win in 26.1 overs, and in the process, began a spirited comeback for the wounded Lions, former NPCA Champions.

Gerald Maina was the toast of Stray Lions ‘A’ team with five wickets.

Sikh Union ‘A’ racked up the competition’s biggest upset so far, handing Swamibapa ‘A’ a 17-run blow to register their third win of the season in the Super Division.

Swamibapa won the toss and elected to field first in a match hosted by Sikh Union.

In their innings, the Sikhs set a decent target of 253 for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 50 overs.

Chasing the target, the Rushab Patel-led Swamibapa side were bowled out for 236 in 48.4 overs, handing Sikh Union an emphatic victory.

Sikh Union’s batting duo of Jasraj Kundi and Rohit Sahu were the match’s highest scorers with 59 and 53 runs respectively.

Obuya Cricket Academy ‘A’ fell to Kanbis by six wickets at Lenana School.

Kanbis won the toss and elected to field first.

Obuya’s top order batsman and skipper Collins Obuya was caught out by Rakep Patel early in the match after he had only smacked a cool 37. Collins has always scored decently whenever he stays longer on the crease.

Kanbis’ Jignesh Kerai and Rakep chalked up 88 and 69 runs respectively in a Super Division weekend devoid of centuries.

Rakesh Kumar was Obuya’s top scorer with 56 off 68 balls.

Kanbis’ right arm medium pace bowler and all-rounder Emmanuel Bundi also made a worthy contribution for his club side with three wickets.

For the second consecutive weekend, it was a bad day in the office for Kanbis’ run machine and skipper Dhiren Gondaria, who was caught out by Abhishek Sharma.

Meanwhile, unbeaten leaders Ruaraka A started off the second leg of the league in ruthless fashion, handing Nairobi Gymkhana a 68-run thrashing.

As usual, Pushkar Sharma and Sachin Gill were the top performers for the victors.

Pushkar hit 43 off 79 deliveries while Sachin crafted a run-a-ball 42, to see their side home and dry, and in the process, continue to tighten their grip on the coveted 50 overs NPCA title.

Division One also treated fans to some exhilarating displays as Sikh Union ‘B’ beat Ruaraka ‘B’ by  two wickets.

Home team SCLPS YL ‘B’ got a walkover against their would-be-opponents Wolves CC ‘A’ as Kenya Kongonis maintained their winning streak with a 10 wickets victory over Stray Lions ‘B’.

At Jamhuri, Ngara Sports Club ‘A’ registered a massive 149 runs victory over Swamibapa ‘B’.
