Three Ugandan teams to grace Eldoret City tournament

Three Ugandan teams are set to debut at the second edition of the Eldoret City volleyball tournament at the Eldoret National Polytechnic grounds, Uasin Gishu county this weekend.

Event patron Paul Bitok, said: “We have Nemo Stars, Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) ( men and women), and Sportes. This shows that the tournament is growing because we are just in the second edition yet have international teams playing."

"We have already gone international starting this year,” said Bitok who also serves as the Kenya Volleyball Federation deputy president.

The three Ugandan clubs will join the over 100 Kenyan sides already registered for the tournament. Bitok said that the county government of Uasin Gishu has sponsored 60 teams from the county.

“The over 60 teams started their prequalification before heading for the tournament. Their qualifiers started on Thursday with the draws done ahead of the event,” added Bitok.

The winning teams in the senior men's and women's categories will pocket Sh100,000 each.

There will also be rewards for top performers in the rest of the categories including universities and colleges, primary and secondary school.

“We don’t want to leave or lock anybody out,” said Bitok.
