Gaspo Ladies will not honour their Women’s Premier League matches going forward, head coach James Ombeng has revealed.

Ombeng said the Football Kenya Federation’s suspension of chairman Edward Githua from football activities following allegations of sexual harassment deprives them of a key benefactor.

Their sit-down will begin this weekend when they are scheduled for a clash against Bunyore Starlets at Mumboha Stadium.

“We have suspended all our matches,” said Ombeng. “We shall not travel to Mumboha Stadium for our match against Bunyore Starlets this weekend.”

Speaking on the phone on Thursday, he added: “All the players are set to leave the camp before the end of the day.”

The players have been told to look for new clubs during the current transfer window which ends on February 8, one of them revealed.

Leftback Leah Andiema is said to be heading to Kenya Police Bullets while rumour has it goalkeeper Pauline Kathuruh is in talks with Bungoma Queens.

Fanis Kwamboka is being linked with Bunda Queens of Tanzania.

On Thursday, FKF, through a press statement signed by CEO Barry Otieno, said Githua is “provisionally suspended from all football activities following serious allegations of sexual harassment” leveled against him by players — between 2021 and 2023.

“Multiple underage players, some of whom served as ball-girls for Gaspo Women FC between the stated periods, accused Githua of inappropriate behavior that created a hostile environment for them during the period with the club,” the statement said.

“FKF safeguarding department has contacted Githua regarding the allegations with the view to have him appear before the FKF disciplinary committee and respond to the said allegations.”
