Ogallo bags bronze medal in women's +73kg in Accra

This brings to four the total number of bronze medals won by the country to five so far in the ongoing African Games.

Kenya’s Faith Ogallo won a b bronze medal in the heavyweight female  +73kg category in their ongoing African Games here in Accra, Ghana.

This brings to five the total number of bronze medals won by the country to five so far in the ongoing African Games.

Weightlifter Esther Khavetsa won the first bronze in the 45kg while Juliana Anyango, competing in the 81kg category, added three bronze medals after lifting 73kg in snatch and 92kg in clean and jerk, totalling 165kg.

Ogallo was the only Kenyan player in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and crashed out at the preliminary stage of the competition after losing to Serbian Milica Mandic 13-0 in the +67kg category. 

She secured an automatic berth to the games after bagging bronze during the last Africa Taekwondo Championships as well as silver at the 12th edition of the Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco.

Initially a basketball enthusiast, Ogallo’s interest in taekwondo began during her years at Kibabii University.

More medals are expected from Mary Muriu (Under57kg) and July Musangi (Under-73kg) on Monday.
