Mose bags World Aquatics swimming scholarship in France

Swimmer Sarah Mose has been awarded a prestigious World Aquatics  Scholarship, which will see her training in Antibes, France for the 2024-25 season.

This accolade adds to her impressive record, including notable performances at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago, where she competed in the 100m backstroke, 50m backstroke, and 50m freestyle.

Kenya Aquatics secretary general, Collins Marigiri described Mose as one of the promising stars in Kenyan swimming.

He said: "We are glad Sara Mose has gotten a prestigious scholarship from World Aquatics and I believe this will go a long way to motivate other swimmers."

He emphasised the federation's commitment to supporting athletes like Sara, noting, "We are more than ready as a federation to work with all athletes to ensure they excel in their swimming career. This is just the beginning. There is more are come."

Marigiri observed Mose's journey has been marked by dedication,  discipline, rigorous training in Poland and representing Kenya on international stages.

He said her performance at the Commonwealth Youth Games against top swimmers from Australia, England, Wales, and Trinidad and Tobago, is a testament to her talent and potential.

Marigiri called for unity among stakeholders to ensure an enabling environment to develop the sport.

"My humble request to stakeholders is to work together and embrace togetherness rather than fighting one another. There is so much potential in the sport we can work together with resilience."

He said Mose's scholarship is a beacon of hope for Kenyan swimming and it is bound to inspire the next generation of athletes.

Elsewhere, Usain Gishu County will host the National Junior Swimming Championship on August 10-11 in Eldoret. 

Uasin Gishu County chairman, Hillary Leboy said preparations for the event are ongoing.

Leboy, who is also Kenya Aquatics vice-chairman, said the event will bring together top swimmers and swimming clubs and he expects competitive events.

“ This is the first time we are hosting an event of this magnitude and it is an honour for the swimmers from the county and Rift Valley. The  federation is keen to popularise the sport across all counties," said Leboy
