RIGGED OUT

Kisumu Day out of Nyanza games amid match-fixing claims

Kodero Bara coach Jacob Aloo said: “The boys played a good game but things did not work out. Our focus was to finish top of the group but the game ended in a draw.”

In Summary

The teams played to a barren draw at Kisii School on Friday morning. This saw Agoro Sare top Pool 'A' — the Group of Death — with five points, the same as Kodero Bara in second, bagging the two automatic semifinal slots.

Kodero Bara and defending champions Agoro Sare High School coaches have denied fixing matches to eliminate Kisumu Day from the ongoing Nyanza Secondary Schools Term Two games.

The teams played to a barren draw at Kisii School on Friday morning. This saw Agoro Sare top Pool 'A' — the Group of Death — with five points, the same as Kodero Bara in second, bagging the two automatic semifinal slots.

Kisumu Day were third with four points.

The match, watched by a capacity crowd, had the two teams pass the ball around and rarely threatened.

Kodero Bara coach Jacob Aloo said: “The boys played a good game but things did not work out. Our focus was to finish top of the group but the game ended in a draw. I’m satisfied with the second-place finish.”

“There was no match-fixing at all,” said Aloo.

His Agoro Sare counterpart Fredrick Akuku dismissed the claims.

He said: “People can say what they want. Our target was to top the group and we achieved that.”

Ambira, popularly known as Mobimba, finished top of Pool ‘B’ with nine points after a 3-1 win over Sameta High from Kisii County. Matutu PAG were second after beating Tonga 3-2.

Agoro Sare face Matutu PAG in the semis as Koderobara confront Ambira.

Ambira coach Jerry Otieno said: “We will give our best in the semis. We have come a long way. We want to win the regional title.”

Otieno, a CAF C licence holder, added: “There was no pressure since we had already qualified for the semis. We wanted to top the group. We hope our 100 per cent record will inspire the players in the quest for the regional title.”
