Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Ken Kenyatta has exuded confidence ahead of the new season this weekend.

The seasoned coach has his sights on delivering the Kenyan Premier League title.

He joined the Kakamega-based side earlier this month.

"We are in good shape to charge for the title. We can achieve it if we put in extra effort this season,” Kenyatta said.

The 2023 FKF Cup champions open their campaign against newbies Mara Sugar at the Awendo Green Stadium on Sunday.

"Mara are new to the league. We are interested to see what kind of challenge they can provide. We shall approach the match with all the seriousness it deserves. We intend to register as many wins as we can to enhance our chances,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mathare United head coach John Kamau expects the league returnees to re-establish themselves against the elites, targeting a top 10-finish.

The 2008 KPL champions were dropped to the National Super League in a disastrous 2023 season, where they finished last.

“We are determined to make an impression. Relegation is not an option this time. We have some great players who can help us accomplish our goals," Kamau said.

“We have strengthened all the departments and look forward to a good performance in our first match against Leopards on Sunday."

The Slum Boys wrapped up second in the NSL, behind Mara Sugar.

Leopards head coach Thomas Trucha hopes to end their heart-wrenching 26-year-old title drought and return to the continental stage.

Trucha believes his squad has the depth to charge for the elusive silverware.

“We have trained well. I believe we are prepared for the huge task ahead. We anticipate a fantastic campaign," he remarked.
