Nairobi gears up for Jubilee Live Free Race

The event will feature six categories — 60km main race, 12km family fun ride, 48km black mamba ride, 2km kiddies’ race, 48-km para-cycling race, and a 60km team race.

Over 2,500 elite cyclists from 21 countries will feature in the third edition of the Jubilee Live Free Race powered by GNBR, set to take place on Sunday, September 29, 2024.

The international premier cycling event is courtesy of Jubilee Insurance in collaboration with Grand Nairobi Bike Race has attracted Ethiopia, Eritrea, the USA, France, and the East African Community among others.

The company has invested KES 20 million into the event, marking its third consecutive year as the title sponsor, with a total contribution of KES 60 million since the partnership began in 2022.

For the third consecutive year, Jubilee Insurance is sponsoring the event to a tune of Sh10 million in cash and an additional Sh 10 million in advertising and promotion. Jubilee Insurance has contributed Sh60 million since the event started in 2022.

Jubilee head of marketing and corporate communications Caroline Ndungu said the annual event aligns with the company's strategic commitment to empower people live life to the fullest.

We are excited about the third edition, not only for the platform it provides for competition and fun but also for its role in fostering conversations that inspire behavioural change and drive meaningful societal impact. We look forward to raising the profile of this event with the ambition of transforming it into a Tour de Kenya,” said Ndungu.

Building on last year's success, the event will feature six thrilling categories, including the flagship 60-km main race, a 12-km family fun ride, the popular 48-km black mamba ride, a 2-km kiddies’ race, a 48-km para-cycling race, and a 60 km team race for teams of six riders.

The race will kick off at Nyayo Stadium, waving through Uhuru Highway and other designated routes.

Juan Cazcarra, Group Chief Operating Officer at Jubilee Insurance, emphasised the event's broader goals.

"The Jubilee Live Free Race aligns with our commitment to promoting health, sustainability, and financial wellness. We are confident that the 2024 edition will strengthen our partnerships and help people lead healthier, more sustainable, and financially secure lives," he said.

On her part, Grand Nairobi Bike Race director Loise Wachira said the event has not only elevated the profile of cycling but also contributed to making the world a better place by fostering community engagement and addressing pressing societal issues.

“The last two editions of the Jubilee Live Free Race have made a significant impact, and this year, we are excited to present an even more thrilling event," said Wachira.

"This year’s race will not only offer cyclists a chance to showcase their skills and be recognized for their achievements but also provide families with memorable opportunities to bond and participate in engaging activities.
