Team Kenya for the next month's Commonwealth Youth Games will be subjected to testing before jetting out of the country and during the competition.

The 7th edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games will be held in Trinidad and Tobago from August 4-11.

The Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) conducted an education session for the athletes at Moi Stadium, Kasarani to enlighten them on the anti-doping rules violations and the protocols involved in testing.

Speaking during the session, ADAK head of education, Martin Yauma said the move was in line with the Commonwealth Games requirement that athletes be educated about doping.

"It is a mandatory requirement by event organisers that all athletes participating in the upcoming event be educated about doping and show evidence of having gone through an anti-doping session. That is why we came here to fulfill the requirement," said Yauma.

The session also shone light on the crucial aspects of clean sports, the effects of using banned substances and the importance of adhering to anti-doping regulations.

"We have shared information about this menace with these young ones as we try to fight it. We want this juniors to be aware of the potential risks and consequences associated with the use of prohibited substances in sports," he added.

Yauma emphasised the significance of maintaining the integrity and staying clear of prohibited substances and treatment methods.

"One of the areas we touched today is values. We want these athletes to be honest about their life from this tender age. We also encourage them to enhance teamwork and even encourage each other to stay away from doping," he said.

He encouraged the athletes to act as role models and ambassadors for clean sports during the games and abide by the doping rules.
