Kenya's Faith Kipyegon completed a golden double after adding the 5,000m title to the earlier gold won in her 1500m specialty on the penultimate day of the World Athletics Championships.

Beatrice Chebet and Emmanuel Wanyonyi added silver and bronze in the men's 800m and women's 5000m races respectively to end Kenya's good day in the office.

The harvest brings to six the number of medals won so far — two gold medals, two silver, and two bronze medals.

As expected, Faith did not disappoint as she beat her bitter rival Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands on the final homestretch courtesy of a killer kick. She clocked 14:53.88 ahead of Sifan who was timed at 14:54.11.

Beatrice Chebet took bronze in 14:54.33 with Margaret Chelimo completing the top four places in 14:56.632. The other Kenyan Lilian Kasait was 10th in 14:59.32.

Wanyonyi was equally over the moon after winning a silver in the men's 800m. Wanyonyi clocked 1:44.53 to place second behind Canadian Marco Arop who won gold in 1:44.24. Great Britain's Ben Pattison completed the podium with a surprise bronze in 1:44.83.

This was Wanyonyi's first medal at the senior level having placed fourth over the distance last year in Oregon.

In an interview, Wanyonyi said this is the beginning of good things to come for him and he would like to build upon his Budapest success ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
