Olympic 5,000m silver medallist Ronald Kwemoi will spearhead a course record attempt at the tRUNsylvania 10km Road race on September 22.

The tRUNsylvania 10K will be the fourth edition of the famous Brasov Running Festival, which will also feature the European Road Mile the previous day on September 21.

The race is a World Athletics Elite Label Race and the only road race of this status in Romania. It takes place over a super-fast three-lap course in the modern Coresi district of Brasov.

The current course record is 26:51 set by Nicolas Kimeli during his triumph in 2022. Race organisers are expecting a competitive race.

“As with previous years, we have brought together some outstanding runners for the tRUNsylvania 10K, including Olympic medallists and our defending men’s champions. They will once again provide a thrilling men's race and, hopefully, create headlines in the running world,” commented Race Director Daniel Santa.

Kwemoi, a former world U20 1500m record holder, won silver at the Paris Olympics with a time of 13:15.04, trailing Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen (13:13.66).

He brings a wealth of experience including a bronze medal from the 2014 African Championships in Marrakech, where he clocked 3:42.59 in the 1,500m.

He also won silver in the same event during the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014 with a time of 3:39.53 trailing James Kiplagat (3:39.31).

Kwemoi’s other accolades include victories from the 2017 Doha (3,00om – 7:28.73) and Eugene Diamond Leagues (Mile – 3:49.04).

Kwemoi will flex muscles with last year’s champion Weldon Langat who secured the title after clocking 27:05 ahead of Amos Kurgat (27:12) and Edward Zakayo (27:14).

During the 2022 edition of the tRUNsylvania race, Langat placed second in 26:55 trailing Kimeli and ahead of Isaac Ndiema (26:55).

Langat holds victories from last year’s Valencia 10km road race (26:55) and the 2021 Laredo 10k (27:24).

The duo will be joined by Sevilla Half Marathon champion Bravin Kiprop, 2022 world 10,000m silver medallist Stanley Mburu, Lille Half Marathon champion Patrick Mosin, Richard Etir, Abraham Kipyatich, David Kimaiyo, Laban Kiplimo and debutant Daniel Kimaiyo.

The Kenyan contingent will be hoping to secure a clean podium sweep but face tough competition from Swiss marathon record holder Tadesse Abraham and Ethiopia’s Hagos Eyob, the Bengaluru 10k third-place finisher.

Other key competitors include France’s Bastien Augusto, the 2021 European U23 cross-country bronze medallist and 2017 Fukuoka Marathon champion Sondre Nordstad of Norway.
