Reigning women champions Kenya Ports Authority on Saturday retained their crown after beating Zetech University Sparks 68-43 at the Makande Welfare Hall in Mombasa.

The Porters complete a 3-0 sweep in the best-of-five-game series after winning Game One 68-38 and Game Two 70-38 in Nairobi last week.

It was not at all easy for KPA as the students posed all sorts of problems both offensively and defensively in the opening half.

They had their opening basket from Chantal Kiyobe and raced for a 16-8 advantage at the end of the first stanza with a stunned crowd watching.

In the second quarter, KPA rallied to lock the duel 19-19 on two free shots by Ifuanaya Okoro, who was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

"I am thankful to KPA and to God for having me here. I really love this place. I am also grateful to my teammates for always pushing me to be the best," beamed the Nigerian.

The champions came back after the break a different side. Hilda Indasi scored from a steal and basket. Okoro was at the heart of KPA's 26-22 lead.

Upon resumption,  Zetech went up 27-26 on a basket by Valery Kemunto.

"I am proud of my girls. They gave a good show, especially in the first two quarters. I am also happy because I will have everyone available next season" offered coach Obilo.

In the fourth quarter, Okoro opened with a score and after Belinda Okoth wheeled inside for a three-point play that make it a 11 point game at 44-33, it was over.

"We had a serious team talk at halftime and we told the girls they must bring their A game in the third quarter," said KPA assistant coach Sammy Kiki.

"At the third start of the third quarter, we started very strongly, controlled the game with a lot more purpose and confidence," he added.

Okoro led all scorers with 27 points that went with eight free shots, Indasi bagged 14 while Natalie Akinyi scored 13.

Towering Medina Okot was the only Sparks hitting double figures.

She picked up 13 points and pulled down six rebounds.
