Coach Owuor, Okoth join Morans camp ahead of FIBA AfroCan

Team manager Mercine Milimu confirmed that the duo, who ply their trades in Rwanda and Oman respectively have arrived home.

Kenya Morans head coach Cliff Owuor and forward Fidel Okoth have joined the team as they make their final push to the 2023 FIBA AfroCan championships that throw off in Luanda, Angola on Saturday.

Team manager Mercine Milimu confirmed that the duo, who ply their trade in Rwanda and Oman respectively, have arrived home and are all set to join the rest.

Morans have been training under assistant coaches Collins Gaya and Ancette Wafula. 

“Apart from Okal (Ariel) who is still waiting to be released by his team, all the players and the coach are in camp,” Milimu said.

“We expect to get into residential camp any time from today (Monday), pending approval by the government.”

The final list was due after Monday's training session while July 6 is the tentative travel date.

Kenya won the silver medal during the inaugural championships in Bamako, Mali in 2019, going down 82-61 to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Angola bagged the bronze medal with Morocco finishing fourth. All the semi-finalists qualified directly for this year's continental show.

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast joined Kenya and Gabon in Group 'A' after beating Nigeria 74-65 in a four-team Zone Two and Three qualifier tournament in Abidjan.

Ivory Coast's Lionel Kouadio scored 18 points and Ulrich Mohamed Kra added another 14 points in that home win while Nigeria's Chinedu Chimbuo posted 15 points and 12 rebounds.

The tournament, played at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, also had Benin and Guinea.
