The 2023 Kenya National Basketball League that was slated to tip off on August 25 has now been pushed forward by a week.

A brief mail from Joseph Amoko, the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) fixtures secretary, said the games have been cancelled to a later date.

There were 19 games scheduled for this weekend.

He said: “Be informed that the games scheduled for 26 and 27 August 2023 have been cancelled to a later date. We request the teams which have not done their registration immediately as we plan to start on September 1.”

He said that the participating teams were to be given registration letters and minutes of last meeting, but this has not been done.

“This will be done soonest — in the next one day — since time is running out. We must not delay the start of the league any longer as this will create more problems going forward,” he said.

Amoko said that out of the 19 games he had lined up on the opening two days, only eight teams were ready for action.

Six Premier League matches were programmed for the opening weekend. The ties involved Storms, Africa Nazarene University (ANU) Panthers and Wolfpacks.

Others are Umoja, Absa, Thunder, United States International University (USIU) Tigers, Stanbic Shields, Strathmore University Swords and Blades.
