KPA to face Burundian champions in BAL opener

Kenyan champions Kenya Ports Authority will start their Road To Basketball of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) campaign against Dynamo BBC of Burundi in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania on October 19.

According to the draws released by continental basketball body, KPA are in Group C Division East, Zone 5 qualifying round alongside Pazi of Tanzania and Sebeta City of Ethiopia.

The porters’ second game will pit them against the Ethiopians side before winding the three-game show with a match against home side Pazi. The matches will be held at the International School of Tanganyika gymnasium.

The top-ranked team in the group will qualify for the Elite 16 round of competition.

Already, 19 clubs from Africa have registered for the first round of this prestigious show.

Four other cities that will also host the qualifiers are Benghazi, Libya (Group A), Yaounde, Cameroon (Group B), Gaborone, Botswana (Group D) and Antananarivo, Madagascar (Group E).

KPA, nine-time Kenyan champions, have made two trips to the premier Africa club competition — in 2019 and 2022, reaching the last 16.

KPA men and women teams camped in Limuru earlier this month before their opening Kenya National Basketball League (KNBL) matches. They easily dispatched Africa Nazarene (ANU) sides 64-47 and 69-29 respectively.
