Kenya Basketball Federation has warned players switching clubs that they will only be allowed to play after all the transfer formalities are completed.

While releasing the names of 41 players who have jumped ship ahead of the new season, KBF competitions secretary Joseph Amoko said things will be done differently this time round.

Among the 41, 20 will turn out for new Premier League clubs.

“The rules are very clear when you are acquiring a player. Those moving must first get clearances from their old teams after which the other formalities will be completed,” he said.

He disclosed that the transfer fee is Sh10,000 and Sh 8,000 for Premier League sides and Lower Division teams respectively.

“They must show proof of payments that also includes Sh700 fee for the player’s licence that should be ready within seven days,” added Amoko.

Nairobi City Thunder have beefed up their squad with top quality players and from the look of things, remains the team to beat in this year’s title hunt.

Thunder, who have convincingly won their three opening matches, have signed national team players Ken Wachira from Dynamo, Burundi and Fidel Okoth (Oman).

Others are Faisal Aden, James Mwangi, Faheem Juma (Equity Bank) and Moses Alier (Umoja).

Completing the roster are Garand Diing, Darill George from Strathmore University, Ariel Ortega and Larry Shavanga (USIU).

National team forward Ivy Opicho, who joined Equity Bank Hawks from Strathmore University Swords, is the highlight of the movers in the women’s category.

Other players who have joined the bankers are Maureen Nyanganyi (Zetech Sparks), Beryl Milungo (KPA) and Shalom Mwendwa (UoN Dynamites).
