Equity Bank Hawks still has a lot to do despite a 67-55 win over United States International University USIU 67-55 in a women’s Kenya National Basketball league match at Nyayo Stadium, said coach Ben Oluoch.
Hawks flew to a 40-26 halftime lead but Oluoch wants more.
“I am happy with the progress so far. But there is still work to be done,” said Oluoch.
“I am giving all the players a chance but those coming off the bench need to be more resilient. They should be able to maintain the tempo.”
Maryanne Nyagaki led the bankers with 18 points, including the team’s last eight. Melissa Akinyi had 16 and Betty Kananu added 12.
“Nyagaki has been having good contributions. Africa Nazarene University (ANU) Panthers mauled Strathmore University Swords 45-40 after trailing 26-18 at the breather.
The Rongai-based students were lifted by Desiree Henrie’s 10 points while Swords had 12 from Sharon Ogaji and 10 from Joy Mupalia.
In a men’s game, Elisha Odhiambo buried 14 points as Ulinzi Warriors gunned down ANU Wolfpacks 67-38.
“I like the way the boys responded in the last half after a close margin at the break. The progress is good but there are a few areas we must tighten,” said Ulinzi coach Ben Mufutu.
On Friday night, Ulinzi suffered a 75-55 loss at the hands of unbeaten league leaders Nairobi City Thunder. Griffin Ligare shot 18 points.
Job Byron scored 16 points as champions Kenya Ports Authority stopped Equity Bank Dumas 68-59.
Women champions KPA trailed Zetech University Sparks 11-2 early before overturning the scores to 59-50 as Grace Irabu hit 16 points.
Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) survived a scare to beat Africa Nazarene university 45-43.
At Uasin Gishu Primary School courts in Eldoret, home girls Eldonets dismissed Storms 56-52.
In the Lower Division, Moi Air Base (MAB) went down 51-42 to Kisumu Lakeside and National Bank of Kenya Phoenix hit Strathmore University 65-47.
