National Super League log leaders Shabana have a chance of increasing their lead at the top of the table to nine points when they take on Mwatate United at Wundanyi Stadium in Taita Taveta County on Friday.

Shabana lead the log with 48 points followed by Murang’a Seals with 41 but the Kisii-based side have played two more games than Seal.

With 10 games to go, Shabana remains favourite to lift the NSL title and gain promotion to the Kenya Premier League.

Buoyed by their 3-2 comeback win against Mara Sugar on Sunday, Shabana coach Sammy Okoth has told his charges to maintain the push.

Coach Okoth said: “We showed character against Mara Sugar and we need to maintain the momentum as the league hits the home straight.”

“Mwatate are a good side and we don’t want to underrate them. We shall approach the game better than we did in the last game against Mara Sugar. As I said earlier, all our remaining matches are like finals so we are going for victory,” added the tactician.

In other matches scheduled for Friday, Mombasa Elites welcome Darajani Gogo at Mbaraki Sports Club while SS Assad entertain Mully Children’s Family (MCF) at Shamu Grounds in Kwale County.

On Saturday, second-placed Murang’a Seal have a chance to reduce Shabana’s lead when they travel to Bomet for an encounter against struggling Silibwet Leones while third-placed Gusii FC will battle it out with Mara Sugar at Awendo Green Stadium.

On Monday, Gusii drubbed Vihiga United 5-2 to revive their promotion hopes.

Kajiado FC hosts stuttering Kisumu All Stars on Saturday at Ildamat playground in Kajiado county. On Sunday, Kiajiado suffered a humiliating 5-0 loss against promotion-chasing Murang’a Seal at St Sebastian Park.

Fresh from their 4-1 drubbing against Mwatate United, Kibera Black Stars face Naivas FC at Camp Toyoyo as relegation-threatened Vihiga United play Migori Youth at Mumias Sports Complex.
