Barcelona optimistic over Arsenal friendly despite virus setback

Barcelona has released a statement reassuring fans that their second pre-season match will proceed as scheduled.

Barcelona is set to face Arsenal at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Wednesday, a mere five days after a stomach virus outbreak led to the cancellation of Saturday’s planned game against Juventus.

The sudden outbreak of gastroenteritis affected eight squad members.

“FC Barcelona wishes to assure its fans that they will be able to attend and enjoy the match we are slated to play against Arsenal at the SoFi Stadium on Wednesday,” the statement reads. It further states that Barcelona and Arsenal “are in close contact and express utmost confidence that our game will be held as planned.”

Barcelona’s US tour will press on with additional matches against archrivals Real Madrid and AC Milan, before they return to Spain to wrap up their pre-season with the traditional Joan Gamper Trophy against Tottenham on August 8.

The La Liga champions will commence their title defence away at Getafe on August 13.
