Moises Caicedo's proposed move to Liverpool from Brighton for a record of £111m continues to draw confusion with the player thought to have reservations over moving to Anfield.

According to Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Ecuadorian midfielder has informed Liverpool that he only wants to join Chelsea.

"Caicedo has decided to keep his word and only accept Chelsea as personal terms were agreed since end of May. Chelsea set to bid again in order to get deal done with Brighton," Romano Twitted.

Chelsea have had at least three bid for the 21-year-old Caicedo rejected by Brighton who value their prized asset same as Declan Rice who moved to Arsenal for a record £105m early in the transfer window.

Sky Sports News' Vinny O'Connor who is at Liverpool's training ground said: "All Liverpool have confirmed so far is that they have an agreement over the fee with Brighton. But when we arrived here this morning, sources were telling us the fear Liverpool had was that Chelsea could come back in and this deal was far from a slam dunk.

"The concern they had centred around the feelings of the player and his representatives. The impression we get is that the feeling amongst them is that Chelsea have been the only show in town throughout this whole pre-season, the fact they were the ones showing interest.

"And maybe there’s a bit of loyalty regarding that and why we hear now that Caicedo is having second thoughts over a potential move to Liverpool.

"As it stands, Liverpool are the only club to have had a bid officially accepted by Brighton and that is why we said earlier Liverpool are still in pole position to sign Moises Caicedo.

"The expectation was, he was due to arrive on Merseyside at some point today for a medical – albeit Liverpool were telling us no medical was booked.

"When we spoke to Jurgen Klopp there was maybe an indication there’s still a bit of a way to go on this, all he could confirm Liverpool had an agreement with Brighton."

Caicedo was part of the Ecuador national team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

His stock has risen over the last 18 months after signing for The Seagulls.
