Vihiga United have promised to embark on a recruitment drive following the lifting of a Fifa ban during the 2021/22 season.

Fifa slapped the National Super League side with a ban after the club failed to pay Nigerian striker Junior Adeyafa the sum of Sh200,000 in accrued wages.

The club took to their Facebook page to express their joy following the lifting of the ban.

"Vihiga United Football Club can confirm that the transfer ban imposed by Fifa on the club has been lifted. Fifa informed the club via email, dated  September 7," said the club.

"The club is happy to have this matter cleared with the world football governing body. We look forward to the upcoming season with renewed focus, as recruitment of players and preparations for the new season are set to get underway."

The statement released by the world governing body on September 7 read in part: "In this context, we take due note from the contents of said letter that the parties entered into a settlement agreement."

"In view of the foregoing, we would like to inform the parties that the present disciplinary proceedings against the respondent, the club Vihiga United FC, are hereby closed since the parties settled their dispute and hence the registration ban imposed has been lifted," the statement concluded.

United have been struggling for the past three seasons, during which they were relegated from the Kenyan Premier League and surprised many by keeping their second-tier status last season.

At one time, they had a squad of just 13 players in a match against Kajiado.
