Holders Homeboyz begin FKF Cup title defence against Solina

Six National Super League teams, four from Division One and 12 regional clubs are also included.

A total 14 Kenyan Premier League sides are among 38 teams drawn for this year’s Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup whose preliminary rounds kick off on January 27-28.

The drawn conducted on Wednesday at the Kenya Institute of Special Education in Nairobi will see defending champions Kakamega Homeboyz lead Premier League champions Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Bandari, Bidco United, Talanta,  Kariobangi Sharks, KCB, Kenya Police, Posta Rangers, Shabana, Sofapaka, Tusker and Ulinzi in the hunt for the Sh2m prize.

The winner will also represent the country at the Confederation Cup.

Six National Super League teams, four from Division One and 12 regional clubs are also included.

The NSL clubs include Kajiado, Mara Sugar, Mombasa Stars, Silibwet Leon and SS Assad while the Division One clubs include Compel Sports, Mofa, Vegpro and Zetech Titans.

The tournament will first feature a qualification round with matches pitting Vegpro against Kenya Police, Wisdom Soccer Academy versus Posta Rangers, Talanta against Marafiki and Bandari versus Bungoma Stars FC. Al Azizia face NSL side Luanda Villa while Eldoro SC Villa host Mombasa Stars.

The rest of the teams, 26, have gained automatic slots in the Round of 32, slated for February 24-25.

Holders Homeboyz kick off their campaign against Solina while the runners-up, Tusker, visit Division Two side Bumbani Stars.
