Kenya Police Bullets head coach Beldine Odemba has attributed her team's success in the Women's Premier League to a steadfast commitment to nurturing mental resilience within the ranks.

This resolute spirit was vividly on display as Bullets dismantled Ulinzi Starlets 4-0 in the 'Maafande derby' at the Police Sacco Stadium on Saturday.

The unbeaten Bullets are now eight points clear at the top of the standings with 37 points from 15 matches.

Ulinzi Starlets are second with 29 points.

The Ulinzi Starlets' defence found themselves overwhelmed, unable to contain the formidable prowess of

Purren Alukwe netted a brace as Becky Okwaro and Kach Mulusa added a goal each.

Odemba attributed their success to a holistic approach, emphasising the cultivation of mental fortitude alongside tactical prowess

“Before I started coaching, I was a life skills coach. We prioritise mental well-being and resilience in our players before each game,” she stated.

“We had prepared well. My girls came into the game with a winning mentality and they have delivered."

Despite their commanding lead, Odemba is still vigilant, cautioning her squad against complacency.

"We remain vigilant, taking each match as it comes and guarding against overconfidence among the players," she asserted.

Odemba extolled Purren for her exceptional shift, highlighting her invaluable contribution to the team's success.

“Purren is just from an injury. Her performance was just incredible. She is a veteran player, one of our top players. She knows what to do when it comes to the crucial matches,” she added.

In a strategic move, Becky, a frontrunner for the WPL Golden Boot with 10 goals, was substituted for Kach in the second half, a decision emblematic of the team's collective spirit.

"Inclusivity is paramount," Odemba affirmed. "The team's success supersedes individual accolades and Kach's stellar performance today exemplifies the depth and hunger within our squad."

“Kach has played well in our friendlies and during the FKF Cup. She has the hunger to score. When she starts scoring, she is unstoppable,” Odemba added.

Odemba, however, bemoaned the absence of Lydia Waganda, who is recovering from injury. She is one of Ulinzi's instrumental players.

“Lydia got injured in the week during training. It’s a minor injury but we are waiting on the doctor’s feedback,” noted Odemba.
