Kenyan Premier League side Nairobi City Stars on Friday maintained that Muhoroni Stadium should not host Football Kenya Federation matches.

Chief executive officer Patrick Korir insists the facility is unsafe to host top-flight matches.

He, however, welcomed fresh conditions issued against Muhoroni Youth following protests from various KPL sides.

On Thursday, FKF chief executive officer Barry Otieno said there is a need to renovate essential amenities at the stadium including restrooms and dressing rooms to satisfactory standards.

Otieno wrote a letter to Muhoroni Youth acting CEO Julius Owino following numerous complaints concerning the treatment of visiting teams, officials and media personnel at Muhoroni Stadium during Premier League matches.

“The reports have raised significant concerns regarding harassment, facility conditions and safety that cannot be overlooked,” said Otieno.

Among the grave issues raised were the denial of access to the pitch for visiting teams immediately after the match meeting, the mistreatment of visiting team officials and players and the placement of the public address system in a manner that disrupts the visiting team’s technical area.

Other complaints reported include harassment and violent conduct by Muhoroni Youth security personnel against media teams and journalists, unhygienic conditions of the stadium facilities, intentional delay of match kick-off and provision of inadequate medical support.

For the facility to continue hosting FKF Premier League matches, the club must ensure free entry and guarantee the safety of all media personnel whether from visiting teams, FKF, media houses, visiting team players, officials and match officials.

Further, the club was directed to allow visiting teams to record all matches at Muhoroni Stadium and must guarantee safety and security.

“No delays in match kickoff shall be tolerated. Also, access to the pitch must be guaranteed to visiting teams, media and match officials immediately after the pre-match meeting,” he said.

Additionally, FKF directed that uniformed police officers man the inner perimeter gate access and not stewards.

Match commissioners were instructed not to allow the kick-off of any match at Muhoroni Stadium if all the conditions had not been met.

“Please be advised that failure to adhere to the conditions will result in the matter being referred to the relevant FKF committees for further determination which may include sanctions or additional requirements,” concluded Otieno.
