Muranga Seal forward Wilson Kamau says they are no longer underdogs in Kenyan football and will be fighting for the FKF Premier League title next season.

Kamau believes they worked hard from the county, regionals, Division One and National Super League—to the KPL and it’s their time to win the big title.

The newcomers, who joined FKF Premier League this season after finishing second in the National Super League  (NSL) have punched above their weight and are currently at  11th on the log with 35 points from 28 games.

Seal are eight points above the relegation zone and need at least seven points from the remaining six games to avoid the chop.

Despite falling to champions-elect Gor Mahia 3-1 in the SportPesa derby at St Sebastian Park, Muranga on May 4, he believes they gave their best and deserved at least a draw.  “It was 1-1 during the breather but K'Ogalo prevailed due to experience,” said Kamau.

Gor opened the scores in the 14th minute through Austin Odhiambo, before Seal, backed by home supporters, equalised through John Kiplagat’s 34th-minute effort.

It was a see-saw affair until FKF league top scorer Benson Omala scored from the penalty spot in the 76th minute and completed his brace with a 94th-minute effort.

“Our technical bench felt the penalty was too soft and shouldn’t have stood. However, the referee's call is final and we have to accept they were better in the second half,” added Kamau.

This was the first time Gor beat Seal having played to a 1-1 draw in a friendly match in 2023 before forcing a 0-0  draw in the first leg.

“We beat giants Tusker and drew with champions Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards in the first leg. This shows we are no pushovers and all teams  must come prepared for battle, ” added the striker

Seal team manager Kevin Oim seconded Kamau’s sentiments and tipped the striker, who joined them straight from High School in 2018 while they were in Division Two, to play an integral part in their title chase.

“We have a good team led by head coach Juma Abdallah and experienced former Kenyan international midfielder Dennis Odhiambo. We only need to beef up some departments and we are good to go,” added Oim.
