Bandari FC vice-chairman Twaha Mbarak wants the national women's Under-17 team exposed to quality build-up matches before their trip to the Dominican Republic for the 2024 Fifa World Cup later in the year.

Mbarak said exposing the teams to quality build-up matches will help bolster their performance.

"We expect to see them in a string of international friendly matches before the main event. In the past, Kenya's success has been hampered by ill preparations," he stated.

The seasoned football administrator lauded the enthusiasm shown in transforming the local football terrain.

He said the success displayed by the women's Under 17 squad authenticates the deliberate and effective measures adopted by the country to grow the game.

"All this is driven by a genuine passion for the game and a desire to steer the nation to unprecedented heights," Mbarak remarked.

"It's the first time we've seen real interest being displayed in Kenyan football and we appreciate the efforts stakeholders are putting in place to grow the game in the country," he added.

Mbarak further hailed Harambee Starlets Under 17 team for being the first Kenyan team to punch a maiden ticket to a World Cup.

He also praised Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba for playing a key role in the success of the team.

"Nothing is achieved in a vacuum. We all saw it coming right from the moment the government launched the nationwide Talanta Hela football tournament," he remarked.

He added: "We are now convinced more than ever before that our football is headed in the right direction."

"We have enough potential to accomplish greatness with the right people in place. Unfortunately, the existing federation has shown little interest in growing Kenya's football," he added.
