Champions Agoro Sare handed tough draw for Nyanza secondary schools games

Nyanza Region Secondary Schools Sports Association secretary Tom Odhiambo released the draws after a meeting at Kisii School.

In Summary

•Agoro Sare is pool ‘A’ which has been dubbed ‘Group of Death’ alongside former champions Kisumu Day, Migori County champions Kodero Bara and Ong’icha from Kisii County.

•In the girls’ category, former champions Lwak Girls will start their campaign to reclaim their title in pool ‘A’ where they will face Alara, Migori Education Center, and Nyabisase.

Nyanza Secondary Schools boys’ football champions Agoro Sare have landed a tough draw ahead of the regional showpiece scheduled for next week in Kisii County.

Agoro Sare are in Pool ‘A’ — Group of Death — alongside former champions Kisumu Day, Migori County champions Kodero Bara and Ong’icha from Kisii County.

Pool ‘B’ features Kisii champions Sameta High, Ambira from Siaya, Matutu PAG from Kisii and Tonga High from Homa Bay.

The draw was released by Nyanza Region Secondary Schools Sports Association secretary Tom Odhiambo following a planning meeting at Kisii School.  

The championships will run between July 9 and 13 at Kisii School and Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho.

In the girls’ category, former champions Lwak Girls' will start their campaign to reclaim the title in Pool ‘A’, where they will face Alara, Migori Education Centre and Nyabisase.

Defending champions Nyakach Girl' are in Pool ‘B’ alongside Moremani, Nyambaria Geke and Hawinga.

Tough competition is expected in boys’ volleyball where Kisumu’s Nyabondo will battle Gogo, Etono and Riokindo from Kisii County in Pool ‘A’.

Defending champions Sagegi face a Herculean task against Nyabisia, Chianda and Onjiko School in Pool ‘B’.

Champions Nyakach Girls' headline Pool ‘A’ and face Ogande Girls', Kameji and Kiabigoria.

Three-time Kisii County champions Nyakembene face Ikonge, Koru and a representative from Siaya County — who will be determined after the hearing of an appeal lodged by Aluor Girls' at the County Education Director.

They accuse Nyakongo of fielding an ineligible player during the sub-county games.

Netball champions Oyugi Ogango face Lambwe, Omwari and representatives from Siaya County while favourites Nyakach Girls will battle Ayora from Kisii, Rirumi and Nyango.

The Siaya county representatives will be known after an appeal by Wagai against Kandaria is heard and determined, said Siaya County Secondary Schools Sports Association secretary Omondi Obiero.

Odhiambo said the rugby 7s draw will be done at the venue.

“We inspected facilities at Kisii School and Cardinal Otunga on Monday and are satisfied with the state of the pitches. We went to Gusii Stadium and are impressed with the progress,” said Odhiambo.
